The Chinese rival to the Tesla Model S is targeting the European market

The Chinese concern BYD will start offering its electric cars to the European market in the fall of 2022. These are several models, including the Tesla Model S-like flagship Han.

The Chinese company BYD produces a variety of equipment: trucks, buses, trains, smartphones, computers and much more, including electric cars and their batteries. Starting this fall, it plans to increase its activities in the European market as well, promoting the nearly five-meter flagship Han as one of its offerings.

The Han is a luxury sedan with a coupe-like design, developed under the guidance of former Alfa Romeo, Audi and Lamborghini specialist, German Wolfgang Egger. The car is equipped with digital gauges and 15.6-inch touchscreen multimedia. Some functions, such as the automatic parking system, the driving program or the volume of the audio system, can be controlled using the buttons and controls on the center console.

The BYD Han will be available with a single motor and front-wheel drive, or a dual-motor option with all-wheel drive. In the first case, the power of the sedan will be 241 hp (350 Nm), in the second – 510 hp (700 Nm), while the acceleration to a hundred takes 7.9 and 3.9 seconds, respectively.

In both models, BYD installed the same lithium iron phosphate battery, which, according to the measurement methodology approved in China and depending on the model, provides a range of up to 715 kilometers.

BYD Han supports charging with a maximum power of up to 120 kW and can charge its battery from 30 to 80 percent in about half an hour, while the built-in AC socket allows the car to also be used as a power source for various electrical devices.

In the Chinese market, the price of the BYD Han, net of government subsidy, is 269,800 and 288,600 yuan for the FWD and AWD version respectively, which would translate to around 39,200 and 41,950 euros at current exchange rates.
