/ world today news/ The Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov filed requests to lift the immunity of the People’s Representatives from the “Volya” PP Veselin Mareshki, Krastina Taskova and Plamen Hristov.
The requests are based on evidence from an investigation by the District Prosecutor’s Office – Varna, initiated on December 12, 2014 for extortion, the prosecutor’s office announced.
In the course of the investigation, evidence was gathered that in the period from the fall of 2012 to the end of 2015 in the cities of Varna, Dobrich, Vidin, Pleven and Sofia, People’s Representative Veselin Mareshki threatened 7 (seven) pharmacy owners with damage to property and other illegal actions with serious consequences for them. Mareshki’s goal was to force the owners of the pharmacies to dispose of their right – to transfer company shares from the commercial companies managed by them to commercial companies owned or controlled by Veselin Mareshki, or to terminate their commercial activities. In some cases, his aim was to force pharmacy owners to undertake to buy drugs from his stock of medicinal products at disadvantageous terms. The evidence shows that during the incriminated period of time, Mareshki threatened the owners of pharmacies that, through targeted administrative pressure – by carrying out biased inspections by employees close to him from the Medicines Executive Agency and through unfair commercial practices, he would bankrupt their commercial companies and will force them out of business.
According to the evidence in the case, Veselin Mareshki carried out the composition of the crime under Art. 213 a, paragraph 2, item 4 in conjunction with paragraph 1 in conjunction with Art. 26 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code – he carried out seven separate acts of execution of the crime of extortion, in four of the cases /in Varna, Dobrich and Pleven/ he acted alone, in two of the cases /in the city of Sofia/ together with the People’s Representative Plamen Hristov , and in one of the cases /in the city of Vidin and in the city of Sofia/, the coercive actions were carried out by Veselin Mareshki, Plamen Hristov and Krastina Taskova.
Krastina Taskova was appointed to be responsible for the pharmacies in the region, which includes the districts of Stara Zagora, Haskovo, Kardjali and Plovdiv. Plamen Hristov was designated for the area including the districts of Sofia, Pleven, Lovech, Vratsa, Vidin, Montana, Pernik, Kyustendil and Blagoevgrad. Veselin Mareshki was involved with the region, covering the districts of Varna, Shumen, Dobrich and Razgrad.
The pre-trial proceedings were sent by the District Prosecutor’s Office – Varna to the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office with a decree dated 30.05.2017. The SGP accepted the criminal proceedings as competent and stopped them, as there is a legal obstacle to the criminal prosecution of Veselin Mareshki, Krastina Taskova and Plamen Hristov – at the moment they are people’s representatives in the 44th National Assembly and in this capacity enjoy immunity.
Following a proposal by the supervising prosecutors from the SGP – SZ “Anticorruption”, the chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov appealed to the National Assembly, since according to Art. 70 par. 1 of the Constitution in these cases, the Parliament is the body that can give permission to incite and conduct criminal prosecution of the people’s representatives from PP “Volya” Veselin Mareshki, Krastina Taskova and Plamen Hristov.
