The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, Herzi Halevi, indicated this Monday that Israel will respond to the attack carried out by Iran amid the uncertainty that this possible step could trigger an escalation at the regional level.
«We are weighing our steps. The launch of so many ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles on the territory of the State of Israel will have a response,” he stressed from the Nevatim air base, according to the accounts of the Israeli Armed Forces on social networks.
Halevi has pointed out that Iran wanted to “damage Israel’s strategic capabilities”, something that “has not happened before.” “We were prepared for Operation ‘Iron Shield’,” he said, alluding to the maneuvers to shoot down the projectiles.
The chief of the General Staff visited this base, located in the Negev desert, after it was hit by Tehran’s drones during the night from Saturday to Sunday and suffered minor damage.
The Israeli Army has confirmed that Iran’s direct attack – the one announced by Tehran as Operation ‘True Promise’ – included the launch of more than 300 projectiles including drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles on Saturday night. The vast majority of the projectiles were intercepted in flight and did not cause significant damage.
For its part, Iran has defended that these attacks are part of a legitimate response and its right to “self-defense” after the bombing of its Consulate in Damascus, blamed on Israel and which resulted in the death of seven members of the Guard. Iranian revolutionary.
