On a rainy Sunday, the Bears special teams unit tried to vacate their spot for a field goal attempt.

Apparently it’s against the rules and the Bears were given a 15-yard penalty, putting them out of range of the field goal.
Soldier Field was a real disaster on Sunday when the Chicago Bears hosted the San Francisco 49ers in their season opener.
When a monstrous downpour hit the stadium, things looked miserable for the players as they tried to warm up for the important match.
Things only got complicated when the game finally started, with both teams slowly working their way down with minimal success.
But the funniest game in the game came when someone finally tried to clean up.
Just before half-time, the Bears sent out a shot for a field goal to try and score some points on the scoreboard.
Before getting ready for the snap, starting bettor and rookie Trenton Gill used a towel to try to clean up some of the area he was ready to release.
Apparently this was illegal, because when the ball broke, the referees threw a flag.
According to Bears reporter Sean Hammond, the rule appears to be interpreted as an extension of the rules prohibiting the use of towels to clean snow off the pitch.
Amusingly, the 15-yard penalty took the Bears out of range of the field goal, forcing Chicago to aim the ball just before half-time.
Luckily for Chicago fans, the Bears ended the match scoring 19 unanswered points on the way to a 19-10 win.
And while the downpour had previously forced the Bears to commit an unwanted penalty, after the game it provided the perfect setting for a big party.
Let this be a lesson for the special team units in the league: regardless of the weather, leave the towels alive.
