Once a year, the Japanese usually go to the parks, to experience and celebrate the blossoming of the cherry tree, which lasts only 10 days. In Japan, the masses wait a whole year for the days of the famous blossom, called “sakura” which symbolizes the beautiful but elusive and fleeting nature of spring.
The sakura and cherry blossom celebrations also began this week in Jerusalem at the Givat Ram Botanical Garden, which was painted for a limited time in the mesmerizing pink of the cherry blossom trees.
The visitors, parents and children, are invited on the next two weekends 9-10.2.24 16-17.2.24 and on the Tuesday between them 13.2.24 for a once-a-year experience – a magical flowering celebration that combines Japanese activities for the whole family such as: martial arts show, taiko drumming, arts demonstration Japanese fighting, experience wearing Japanese clothes, tours among the cherry trees, a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, a photography workshop, creative workshops where the children will make flowers from paper folds, a Japanese illustration manga workshop and much more. The activity is included in the price of admission to the garden. Free entry for evacuees, courtesy of the Jerusalem Foundation.
The sakura celebration in the botanical garden is held in cooperation with the Jerusalem Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in Israel.
