The cheap electricity tariff will be up to 200 kWh, the top will be expensive

3 hours of water heater per day exhaust the limit

The cheap electricity tariff will be for consumption of up to 200 kilowatt hours per month, announced the chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) Stanislav Todorov.

Two weeks ago, he said that the introduction of the so-called block tariff, i.e. maintaining the current price of electricity for a long period of time, but only for certain consumption.

The 200-kilowatt-hour quota appears for the first time since the energy regulator said it was ready to introduce new household tariffs. Todorov said the commission aims to protect the most vulnerable consumers, who also have the lowest consumption. And gave an example that for a one-bedroom apartment, which consumes up to 200 kilowatt hours per month,

the bill will be about 40-50 leva

and it will remain so in the future. If this consumption is exceeded, a higher price will be paid.

From 2002 to 2006 we had a two-stage tariff, for the first 75 kWh during the day the price was 9.8 cents per kWh, and above this limit – over 17.4 cents. For the night tariff the limit of the cheap tariff was 53 kWh per price of 6.8 cents. After the abolition of these tariffs in stages in 2005 and 2006, the electricity during the day fell to 14 cents. At that time, data were given that

20% of households have fit in low tariffs

Experts comment that the planned 200 kWh will be exhausted if a hot water boiler is used and it works 3 hours a day. Others believe that this tariff means cheap electricity of 7 kilowatts for 30 days a month, which provides the use of lighting, refrigerator, TV and chargers included non-stop in the socket. But it is not enough to start the boiler once a week. Undoubtedly, this eliminates the frequent rotation of the washing machine, scratches the dryer, air conditioner and more powerful appliances in general.

However, Todorov believes that block tariffs should not be rushed because

for household users are provided affordable prices for the year ahead, as of July 1.

There is speculation that there will be a electricity regime in our country, said the chairman of the EWRC. Because Bulgaria has the capacity to produce almost twice as much as it consumes.

If the crisis deepens, it is an option to stop the export of electricity, but Todorov does not see a realistic hypothesis for this to happen.

He added that the cheapest energy will probably be during the day, and not as before at night. In our country and in the neighboring countries many photovoltaic installations are installed during the day

between 12 and It’s 4 p.m. the lowest consumption

and there may be an excess of energy, hence lower prices.

Bulgaria produces a large part of the electricity in the whole Balkan Peninsula, we have a surplus of electricity and together with Kozloduy NPP Bulgarian consumers can get electricity at a relatively low price.

We removed the subsidies that all RES producers receive and transferred them to the household, ”Todorov explained the EWRC’s proposal to increase the price of electricity by only 3.3%.

“If the storage facility in Chiren is not 100% full and the gas connection with Greece does not work, there is a risk of gas supply to consumers and district heating,” said the EWRC chairman. He also announced that a contract for the supply of American liquefied natural gas has not been signed yet.

“I think negotiations are underway, but as far as I am aware, I cannot confirm whether there is a signed one. As soon as such a step is taken, they must submit the contract to the EWRC for approval. The second thing that needs to happen in order to guarantee consumption in Bulgaria is to fill the storage in Chiren to 100%. At the moment it is 23%. I think it’s too little. About 15% must be filled Chiren from now on, without missing a single day, so that it can be filled by October 1. The third thing that needs to happen is for the gas connection with Greece to be built and operating, “Todorov said.
