The Seattle Seahawks (4-3) were left alone in first place in the NFC West after defeating the Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) by a score of 37-23 at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks also top .500 for the first time since the opening game.
Geno Smith made it through an early interception and threw two touchdowns at the Marchioness Goodwin, while Kenneth Walker III rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns. The Seahawks defense kept hometown quarterback Justin Herbert’s assault at bay and stopped the Chargers’ hasty attack. In addition to the defensive play, the attack of the Seahawks managed to cause damage. The Seattle team converted five of the nine thirds down, three of them from 13, 14 and 11 yards.
The match was also highlighted by the injuries of both teams. On the Seawaks side, Special Teams captain Nick Bellores and right guard Phil Haynes suffered a concussion while wide receiver DK Metcalf injured his knee. The Chargers also lost JC Jackson to a knee injury, as did wide receiver Mike Williams.
Sunday’s win marked the first SoFi Stadium win for the Seahawks, who sit a game ahead of the 49ers, who lost to the Chiefs, and 0.5 ahead of the Los Angeles Rams.
The next game for the Chargers is against the Falcons on Sunday, November 6 in Atlanta (10:00).
