New Star Wars series continue to appear regularly on Disney +. In the cinema, however, things are very different. At the moment it even seems that the cinema break will be extended. Because a planned theatrical release of “Star Wars” in December 2023 remains untitled. Now a new project is in the works that wants to bring “Star Wars” back to the big screen.
In fact, “Rogue Squadron” was supposed to end the multi-year film hiatus of the “Star Wars” franchise in late 2023. However, after the creative differences between “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins and Disney, the project is for now suspended. It looks like Jenkins is pursuing other projects for the moment. This leaves the theatrical release scheduled for December 2023 free.
So it will probably take a lot longer before a new Star Wars adventure hits theaters. Deadline recently reported on a new project from “Lost” producer Damon Lindelof, but also wrote that the film shouldn’t be expected until 2025.
After it was announced just a few days ago that Lindelof is working on a movie with Lucasfilms, the Hollywood Reporter now wants to know where the film will take place in the “Star Wars” saga. So it should be an independent story, but it takes place after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and may therefore have some famous characters from the sequel trilogy ready.
Whether that really means Rey, Finn, or Poe is debatable, but at least the movie won’t get along without R2-D2 and C-3PO. It is unclear for the moment whether the new project will appear before or after the expected film by Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige.
