Excitement and chaos at the airport
He tells his observations about the current situation: “People are worried. It’s not a joke what’s happening. Right now our flight is delayed. Everyone who is waiting for it is worried. I’m waiting for a flight to Greece, because on the way to Latvia, it seems there is no option to fly out. Most flights fly directly to Athens, Greece.”
Jānis plans to fly from Greece to Latvia. The opportunity to go to Latvia appeared on October 8, but the flight was canceled because, as Jānis says, it was not safe enough and the airport was closed.
“I really don’t know when the airport was closed and when it wasn’t. One says this, the other says that. Some flights take place, some don’t,” Jānis outlines the prevailing uncertainty.
Jānis said that the Latvian company where he works cares a lot about them, because he also took care of the plane tickets for the trip home. Therefore, the Latvians did not contact the Latvian embassy in Israel, but Jānis filled out the electronic form so that Latvia knows that he is in Israel and what the situation is.
He says that the airport was extremely crowded. “We were standing on the sidelines. I don’t know what people noticed, but they all started running away in a panic, leaving their suitcases behind. They probably saw a missile.

We had no choice but to run ahead of them so as not to be ambushed. People were tripping over suitcases. It was an insane sight, quite frightening. No one understood what happened there.
