“The Channel will not become a cemetery”

At least 34 migrants died in the shipwreck that took place in the Channel. This was announced by the French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, who went to Calais tonight. The migrants were on board two boats that capsized. Among the victims there is also a young girl, while two people were rescued and four alleged traffickers were arrested.

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a European-wide crisis meeting to be called, stating that “France will not allow the English Channel to become a cemetery”. “We will do everything possible to find and convict those responsible,” Macron assured.

A rescue operation is underway by air and sea by the British and French authorities to ascertain if there are any other survivors.
