The Granada City Council has promoted a cultural project to turn the Chana neighborhood into an open-air art gallery that starts this Saturday with the participation of 33 artists who will display their art on a wall of more than one hundred meters from the new residence of students installed in the area.
The initiative ‘Urban Art Gallery in La Chana’ has been presented this Thursday by the mayor, Francisco Cuenca, who has influenced the idea that the economic and social reactivation, after the crisis derived from the pandemic, has to come ” hand in hand with the enjoyment of culture in the street “” and this project arises precisely from the need to reactivate some neighborhoods of the city, specifically La Chana.
“We wanted to convert a neighborhood where most of the buildings are from the sixties, where there is a significant degradation but also an important creative component, into a new cultural space.” Thus, the mural of the student residence is expected to add another five public spaces in the neighborhood, such as the facades of the Villa Pineda Caseta, the Library, the sports center and the José Tamayo Theater, among others.
During the presentation of the project, Francisco Cuenca thanked the collaboration “of an exceptional ally such as the new residence LIV Student”, as well as the rest of sponsors such as Pinturas Kolmer, Copingra, the Association of Neighbors of La Chana, Mahou San Miguel Group, Bacoma, “since without them this activity could not have seen the light, so from here the thanks of the city and the City Council”.
The event will start at 10:00 am on Saturday and is scheduled to end at 7:00 pm, the City Council collaborates with the assignment of spaces and occupation of public roads and with a DJ who will enliven the festive activity.
