Real Madrid vs Chelsea will happen again in the knockout round Liga Champions. For the third time in a row the two met.
Voting Champions League quarter-finals was held on Friday (17/3). One of the results brought together Real Madrid vs Chelsea.
Madrid qualified for the quarter-finals after getting rid of Liverpool with an aggregate of 6-2. Meanwhile, Chelsea kicked out Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 aggregate comeback.
Meeting Real Madrid vs Chelsea it would be the third time in three straight seasons. Previously, the duel between the two giants had taken place in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons.
In the 2020/2021 season, Real Madrid vs Chelsea happened in the semifinals. Los Blancos had to admit the Blues’ advantage with a 1-3 aggregate defeat. Had a 1-1 draw in Madrid, Karim Benzema et al were beaten 0-2 in London, and Chelsea finally came out as champions at the end of the tournament.
A season later, the two met again in the quarterfinals. Another fierce duel ensued, but this time Real Madrid won. After winning 3-2 in London, Madrid only lost 2-3 at home, and still advanced to the semifinals 5-4 on aggregate. Madrid also became champions until the end.
This season, the two will clash again in the quarterfinals. The first leg will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu, next April 13, then a week later they will play in England, April 19, 2023.
Judging by the performance of the two teams, both teams are also struggling. Chelsea just got up in the last three games, the same as Real Madrid, who just won their last two matches.
