Despite a 2-0 defeat at Real Madrid, Borussia Mönchengladbach are in the round of 16. The move is a tremendous game because Inter in the parallel game against Shakhtar Donetsk is under no circumstances allowed to score or receive a goal. It’s good that the Swiss international Breel Embolo has his smartphone with him: the Gladbachers watch the last minutes of the game in Milan on it.
Inter do not manage to hit the Ukrainians anymore, it remains a goalless draw. And so Borussia Mönchengladbach cheers.

Coumetian ascent
Sometimes it’s really quick. Billy Koumetio was just a ball boy in one of the most legendary Liverpool games in recent history. It was only 19 months ago that the Reds won the second leg at Anfield 4-0 after a 3-0 defeat in Barcelona. And now the 1.95 m long defender was on the field himself, Koumetio made his debut in the Champions League shortly after his 18th birthday.

The Brazilian Neymar doesn’t have the best reputation in Switzerland since he played the dying swan in the 2018 World Cup game in a duel with Valon Behrami. But he is rightly considered one of the best footballers today. Neymar showed it in Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-1 win over Basaksehir Istanbul with three goals, and especially his first goal:

Neymar has also set a new record with the triplet. He is now the first ever footballer to have scored at least 20 goals for two clubs in the history of the Champions League and its predecessor, the Meistercup. The PSG star also made it in the dress of FC Barcelona.
Mbappé cracks Messi mark
Neymar’s teammate Kylian Mbappé also sets a new record. The French world champion is the youngest player to have reached 20 goals in the Champions League. He is 21 years and 11 months old, the previous record holder Lionel Messi was 22 years and 8 months old when he scored his 20th goal in the “premier class”.
The big ones dominate
Completely surprising As expected, the favorites almost prevailed across the board. 14 of the 16 round of 16 players come from the four largest leagues, the Premier League (3 teams), the Bundesliga (4), the Primera División (4) and Serie A (3). Only the star ensemble of the French series champions PSG and FC Porto are at home in other leagues.
The biggest disappointment of the group stage is probably Inter, who were the last to “survive” in the Europa League. In this the international season continues for Manchester United, which drew the short straw in the «death group» H against PSG and Leipzig.
