The Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, is seeing massive celebrations, with millions of citizens eager to see the players of their World Cup-winning team as they pass by on a dedicated bus.
The bus, which bears the name of “Champions for Three Times” (Tri-Campeones), started its tour from the headquarters of the Argentine Football Federation, and will travel 32 kilometers in the center of the capital, where the celebrations are concentrated.
After three hours, however, the bus had only traveled about ten kilometres, after tens of thousands of fans had slowed down its journey, and the masses poured in from all sides, from the suburbs of the capital and the provinces, above all from Rosario , located at a distance of 300 kilometers. Some of them arrived as early as midnight, taking advantage of the public holiday decided by the authorities to participate in the celebration of the Argentine national team’s third world title. The masses covered the streets, squares and crossroads.
This incredible crowd, which a city source estimated in a statement to Agence France-Presse, numbered more than 4 million, extended inside and outside the city, which has a population of 3 million people (about 13 million people, including the suburbs).
The crowd can’t stop chanting “Boys…we won the third,” which has become an unofficial anthem for Argentina, echoing along major closed-to-traffic streets and in the subway.
