The big weather winner over the Easter weekend will be Eastern Norway. Then follows Vestlandet, Trøndelag and Nordland, while the Troms and Finnmarkingen should perhaps reconsider Easter in the sun wall.
– The northernmost part of the country fares worst when it comes to the Easter holidays. The weather winners will be those who stick to Østafjells – here there is little chance of precipitation and the greatest chance of sun. The others get a bit of everything, concludes meteorologist on duty, Per Egil Haga.
However, the festive days start relatively gray for the whole country, while the best days in terms of weather are Easter Eve and the first and second Easter Sundays.
Then it turns around
Temperatures are rising
On Maundy Thursday, a low pressure will arrive from the west, bringing with it gray weather and precipitation. Mostly in the northern part of the country, but also further south.
– There will be opportunities for precipitation from the west in Agder and north in Western Norway, but also for Trøndelag and Northern Norway. There will be wind and precipitation, but also rising temperatures, says the meteorologist.
As far as the east in Agder, in Telemark and the rest of Eastern Norway is concerned, the high pressure will be dominant on Thursday. It will be cloudy, but unlikely to rain in these areas.
– Here, too, temperatures will rise beyond the Easter holiday. From Thursday, it looks like we might get double-digit maximum temperatures – we’re talking about ten degrees, says Haga and adds:
– It won’t be really mild weather, but there will be an end to the cold days we have until then. In April we get slightly more normal temperatures.
On Good Friday, there will be more cloudless skies from Trøndelag and southwards.
– In the northern parts of the country it will mainly be gray weather, but from Trøndelag and further south it looks lighter. Also in Vestafjell there will possibly be a “crack” in the cloud cover, especially when we get to Saturday, says Haga.
– Then come the ugly overtakings
– The gray weather continues
Whether you are planning ski trips in the mountains or city trips at Easter, and want to combine this with sun, you should be patient until the last days of the holiday.
– For next weekend, it seems that the high pressure in the south will strengthen, there will be lighter cloud cover and higher temperatures. It also looks like there will be some sun and a supply of air masses from the south, which means that we will perhaps approach 12-13 degrees Celsius, says the meteorologist.
The forecasts for the north are more uncertain, but for now it looks like they will get stormy weather on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
– However, there is a real possibility that the high pressure will also intensify northward. There is a slightly better outlook for Nordland, but in Troms and Finnmark it is possible that the gray weather will continue through the latter part of Easter.
Red danger warning
The cold period is over
And the real good news?
Winter is over, if we are to believe the forecasts.
– The month of March has been cold throughout the country. April starts cold, but temperatures will be more normal throughout the month. It won’t be the great spring heat and very high temperatures, but a good rise in temperature both north and south, says Haga.
– Does that mean we can conclude that the long winter is over?
– In any case, it does not look like we will get another cold period beyond April. It can look promising, he says, adding:
– But you probably have to be patient if you wait for temperatures up to 15-20 degrees. However, it seems that May will be warmer than normal, as we are now suggesting in the forecasts.
