The Chambers of Commerce of Segovia and Spain in the United Kingdom will offer during the next months a cycle of webinar on the different business opportunities opening up in the UK after Brexit. The departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union on December 31, 2020 has changed the way in which Spanish companies, like the rest of the Common Market, must relate to that destination.

This new situation entails a series of complications and administrative demands, but at the same time opens a series of business expectations that those best prepared companies will take advantage of. In this context, the Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the United Kingdom, which turns 135 this year, has decided to organize a series of technical seminars to analyze how Brexit will affect different economic sectors, and the conditions that must be taken into account. account from now on to do business in the UK.

The companies that better adapt to the changes introduced may benefit of that new British commercial reality after Brexit. For this reason, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Segovia, whose president, Pedro Palomo, maintains close relations with his counterpart at the head of Spain in the United Kingdom, Eduardo Barrachina, offers Segovia companies the possibility of participating in free of charge in this cycle of twelve webinars which, under the title ‘Doing business in the UK after Brexit’, started last week with a talk on ‘Ecommerce in the UK’, given by different members of the Digital department , Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

The Chamber of Commerce of Segovia thus wants companies in the province to be among the best positioned in the United Kingdom after Brexit. The British is an interesting market for Segovian exports. With 28 million euros in 2020, contributes 5.4% of the value of all exports, which makes the United Kingdom the sixth destination for Segovian sales abroad.

The second of the seminars, which like all of them will be online and in English, will take place on Tuesday 9 March, between 12 noon and 1 pm, and will focus on “The new British migration rules”. Prominent members of the Home Office, such as Blanca Gray, Richard Jackson and Ragnar Clifford, will address different topics such as the new immigration point system, the visa application process, European citizens who lived in the UK before December 31, 2020 and how their citizenship and immigration status can be proven, and so-called skilled workers.

Financial services

The third of the virtual meetings will address on Wednesday 17 March, also between 12:00 and 13:00, the latest news on “Financial services in the United Kingdom”. In this case, the speaker will be the Deputy Director HM Treasury, John O’Regan, who will speak, among other issues, about the British government vision in relation to these financial services after Brexit, the importance of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement for financial services companies, trade in financial services between the United Kingdom and the European Union and the rest of the world after Brexit, and the equivalence with the US regarding financial services.

The next webinar will be offered on Thursday, March 25, between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm, and will have the title “Road transport for Spanish companies: everything you should know”. Members of the British Government Department of Transport Mike Head, Charlotte Sharman and Navneet Sehmi will speak on the implications of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement with regard to the road transport, licensing requirements, market access rights for carriers and passenger transport companies; and the formalities, licenses and permits necessary to cross the border with the United Kingdom.

Throughout subsequent seminars, other topics such as how to export the UK: the new requirements and necessary formalities; do business with the UK after Brexit; how to export wine, organic products and cars to the UK; the export of agricultural products from Spain to the United Kingdom, public procurement in the United Kingdom, the energy market after Brexit, the new relationship between the United Kingdom and Spain, or the provision of services in the United Kingdom.
