The Challenges Faced by Dynamo U-19 as a Young Team

Dynamo U-19 cannot boast of stable results lately. In the last round they lost to Kolos – 3:4. Not long ago we lost to Polesie – 1:2.

Let’s just say that we lost more to our problems than to our rivals. Nobody absolves head coach Igor Kostyuk of blame, but the reason is not only in him. In fact, the problem is much deeper.

Youth. I watched the match against Dnepr-1 in person. The Dnieper team even looks much older. At that age, every year matters a lot. The Dynamo youth team is one of the youngest in the youth league. There are enough players from 2006 who can already be consistently called main team players. Today it is difficult to imagine a squad without forward Matvey Ponomarenko, left back Denis Dikiy, midfielders Daniil Ishchenko and Kirill Osipenko or goalkeeper Vyacheslav Surkis. In such a difficult position, the middle fields are played by a combination of players from 2006, Ishchenko and Osipenko. Of course, they lack experience. It takes at least six months to “get the hang of things”, and only then can we talk about some kind of stability. 2006 played last season on loan for Zorya, but the responsibility there was much lower. The team played for fun. Nobody set out to fight for prizes. And here all responsibility and pressure for the result falls.

In fact, there is no 2004. Only when Anton Tsarenko is sent to receive playing practice. The opponents have enough players from 2004. They are making full use of the limit of 5 2004 players on the field plus additional substitutes. The same “Dnepr-1” has only one starting player, Daniil Khan, born in 2006. Leaders Daniel Kivinda and Alexander Avramenko – 2004. Kolos has a goalkeeper Ivan Pakholyuk, a defender Vladislav Kanaev, Egor Popravka born in 2004. Goalkeeper, experienced defenders. Moreover, there are even players from 2007. For young players there is no stability, mistakes are normal things. You need to go through all this in order to become a football player. On the contrary, mistakes are an important feature of progress.

Lack of competition. As is well known, competition is the key to development and progress for a football player. You always need to be better than someone else in order to have gaming practice. The composition of the youth team does not allow having two players per position. In fact, there is only one goalkeeper, Surkis. He is good, talented, promising, but another goalkeeper would clearly be useful for Vyacheslav himself. Somewhere you need to rest, take a breath. Yuri Avramenko has health problems. Sergei Kiblitsky got lost somewhere. Nikita Gudimenko is now sitting in the reserves, and they didn’t really hope for him.

Likewise in the right-back position, where there is only Alexey Gusev. Or on the left flank of defense, where there is only one Denis Dikiy. In the middle of the field the picture is no better. For example, the arrival of Vladislav Gerich greatly helped that Matvey Ponomarenko began to progress.

Loss of Matkevich. The Kiev winger was injured in the match against Polesie. A fracture and at least a month of downtime. I believe that Andrey was one of the team leaders who gave results. A very hardworking player who finishes every episode. There is no replacement for him yet. The 2006 players Vladislav Kalin or Kirill Pashko are not ready for this role. One of the flanks began to clearly sag in the attack.

Quality of Academy graduates. The days have already passed when Dynamo began to gather the best players from all over Ukraine. On one side is Shakhtar, on the other is Rukh. There, Polesie has ambitious plans to build an Academy. Munkac operates in Transcarpathia. At one time, Metalist was revived. They collected Kharkov talents. All this can go on for a long time. In the summer, Vladislav Gerich and Taras Mikhavko from FC Lviv came to the Dynamo youth team and immediately became the leading players of the Dynamo youth team and won the competition from those players who were on the team. Not so long ago they wrote that Dynamo was interested in Veres’ top ten Dmitry Godei (5 goals in this U-19 championship). Now Kostyuk doesn’t have an attacking midfielder at all. Although he loves such players very much – Sergei Buletsa, Anton Tsarenko. Therefore, when Gerich was healthy, we played with two forwards.

Lack of a leader. You can’t appoint a leader. You can only be like this from birth. The player must not only play well himself, but also force others to play well. Lack of competition leads to mistakes in very simple situations. The coach prompts, but there still needs to be someone on the field to help maintain game discipline. In the match with Polesie, Denis Dikiy began to beat at his own goal, Nazar Balaba was sent off. Someone should tell them. Somehow Taras Mikhavko is trying to take on these functions. But he hasn’t been on the team that long, and Lviv’s Authority is a little missed.
