The Municipality of Murisengo also turned “pink” by joining the regional awareness campaign of the same name, promoted by the Municipality as part of the events that introduced the International Day against Breast Cancer (19 October). In the evocative setting of the former church of San Michele, located at the foot of the thousand-year-old castle, an important talk was held on Saturday 12 October by the oncologist and vice president of Andos (National Association of Women on Breast Surgery) Casale Monferrato Elisabetta Gattoni, followed by the Vernissage of the “Push-up” exhibition of the Quellel Art Collective.

Starting from the title “Taking care: the challenge of our times. from prevention to rehabilitation, a path shared with Andos”, Gattoni soon entered into the merits of the fundamentals of prevention, as a precious and indispensable prerequisite for saving lives. On the topic of prevention, medical-scientific societies recommend: primary prevention, which includes health education courses and information campaigns to promote a correct lifestyle, physical activity and eating/luxury habits (smoking, alcohol); for the secondary one, adherence to screening programs with the aim of identifying the disease in an early stage (mammography, Pap test and testing for occult blood in the faeces); finally, the tertiary one which includes physical, psychological and social rehabilitation for recovery/return to family, work and social life after oncological treatments, and physiotherapy to prevent relapses and reduce the probability of developing disabilities related to the disease and with therapy. “Prevention changes the natural history of the disease” underlined the oncologist.

Among the passages, then, the oncologist particularly focused on the fundamental importance of the Breast Unit of the ASL AL, that is, the organizational structure to which professionals of various specialties belong who take care of people affected by breast cancer, from forward screening. “A woman who undergoes diagnosis, intervention and therapy within the Breast Unit has double the probability of recovery and survival” specified Gattoni.

The care and care of patients are completed by the numerous activities that Andos offers in Casale Monferrato, such as: training, information and prevention activities on problems relating to cancer, for doctors, nursing staff, volunteers and patients for full success therapeutic, functional and re-educational; cooking courses to learn how to select raw materials and the correct method of cooking food; free visits with the dietician; Nordic Walking courses, water gymnastics, physical re-education and yoga; both individual and group psychological support. All this, to help guarantee the best “outcomes”, thanks to the high influence that these actions have on the desire to seek treatment.

To enrich and strengthen Gattoni’s speech, the testimony of Ylenia Milone, the young mother who underwent breast surgery, whose contribution highlighted how prevention (which she did not do within the deadline) would have avoided surgical interventions which, at times, , affect femininity with psychological consequences as well. Well, Andos also takes charge of these aspects at 360°, accompanying women in the valorization of the self, resorting, among others, to all those care measures that lighten the appearance and encourage social participation, such as sanitized wigs given on loan for use, make-up and self-make-up courses…. . Precisely on October 19th, at 5 pm at the pharmacy in Rosignano Monferrato, a self-makeup course promoted by Andos will be held.
