The chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) has passed from Azerbaijan to Iran.
SIA informs that the decision was made at the 27th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the organization held on October 10 in Shusha.
It should be noted that the 27th meeting of the OIC Council of Ministers was held today in Shusha under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari and heads and representatives of foreign policy departments of other member states took part in the meeting.
In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, attended the event as an observer.
At the meeting, the work done within the framework of cooperation in the context of the OIC in 2023 and its results were evaluated, and the current issues on the organization’s agenda were discussed.
It should be noted that the Economic Cooperation Organization is a regional intergovernmental economic structure that includes Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Azerbaijan has been a member of the organization since 1992.
