The ceremony will be broadcast at 21:05 on Latvian Television and public media portal “Lsm.lv”.

As previously reported, the feature film “Janvāris” by Viestura Kairis received the most nominations this year – a total of 12.

It qualifies for the main award – “Best Feature Film”, while Viesturs Kairišs is nominated for “Kristap” as the best director. The film also received nominations in the categories “Best Screenwriter”, “Best Cinematographer”, “Best Actor in a Leading Role” – Kārlis Arnolds Avots, “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” – Baiba Broka and Alice Dzene, “Best Film Artist”, “Best Costume Design artist”, “Best makeup artist”, “Best sound director”, “Best editing director”.

The film “January” is followed by Aik Karapetyan’s “Sam’s Travels”, which received a total of 11 nominations. “Sam’s Travels” is also in the running for awards in the “Best Feature Film” and “Best Director” categories. It is also nominated for screenplay, cinematography, film artist, costume designer, make-up artist and editing director. The award in the category “Best actor in the main role” is claimed by Kevin Jansens, in the category “Best actress in a supporting role” – Laura Siliņa, and “Best actor in a supporting role” – Normunds Griestiņš.

The Abel brothers’ film “Restless Minds” received ten nominations, which will also compete in the main categories “Best Feature Film” and “Best Feature Film Director”. Both brothers of the film – Mārcis Lācis and Toms Auniņš – were also appreciated for their acting work. Also, the film was nominated in several technical categories – for the work of the film artist, costume artist, make-up artist, composer and sound director.

Linda Olte’s film “Sisters”, which received a total of seven nominations, and Uģ Olte’s “Sacrifice”, which also received seven nominations, are also competing for the “Best Feature Film” award.

According to Zane Dzene, representative of the organizers of the award – Latvian Cinematographers’ Union, a total of 14 full-length feature films, six short feature films, three minority co-production films, 17 full-length documentary films, 16 short documentary films, five multi-series films, three animated films and 19 student films were submitted for the award. from LKA National Film School, RISEBA and Latvian Academy of Arts.

As the organizers announced at the press conference, the award for lifetime contribution to film art will be awarded to cinematographer Alvi Lapiņa.

It has already been reported that the events of the National Cinema Award “Lielais Kristaps” will take place from February 23 to 26 next year. The “Lielais Kristaps” award is organized by the Latvian Cinematographers Union in cooperation with the National Cinema Center and the Ministry of Culture.

The Great Kristaps Award in cinematography was established in 1977 at LKS. “Lielais Kristaps” gives the opportunity to see and professionally evaluate the latest Latvian films together, as well as to honor the traditions of Latvian cinema. In 2016, “Lielais Kristaps” won the status of the National Award.
