The symposium is held for two weeks and will be attended by artists from seven countries, South Korea, Poland, China, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus and Latvia, creating ceramic works of art and experimenting with firings.
According to the representatives of the Mark Rothko Center, on July 9, an exhibition of 15 symposium participants was opened in the gallery “4METRI” of the Latvian Center for Contemporary Ceramics (courtyard at 8 Hospitalu Street, Daugavpils). It consists of works co-taken by artists, created in a familiar environment, each in their own workshop with their own equipment and firing technologies.
“During the symposium, participants find themselves in a changed, unusual, some exotic environment, where laboratory-worthy experiments begin – exchange of experience, observation of colleagues, use of new materials, trying unusual burns. Some focus on controlled experiments, sampling together, the symposium participants fill this time with new emotions, thoughts and conclusions, which can stimulate unexpected creative turning points in the artist ‘s career, “writes the symposium organizers.
The two-week collaboration will culminate in an exhibition that will be on view Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center. The works created at the symposium will delight art lovers, starting at 4 pm on July 23.
The international symposium “Ceramics Laboratory” is organized in the Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusian cross-border cooperation project “Cross-border loyalty program for the promotion of culture and tourism.
