The Government of Spain has launched the Xacobeo National Tourist Plan 21-22 which is intended to serve as a lever to “reactivate” the Caminos de Santiago throughout the country and improve “the pilgrim experience” thanks to an investment of 121 million euros, of which 5,9 will be dedicated to expansion of the Museum of Fine Arts in Oviedo.

This was stated this Friday by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, in the act of presentation of the plan in the capital of Asturias, which has brought together representatives of the eleven autonomous communities through which the route runs.

The plan, which will be financed with the fondos europeos Next Generation, contemplates an investment of 65 million euros directed to 61 properties of the historical heritage for tourist use of the Camino de Santiago, with the aim of making them sustainable, modernizing their discharge management systems and installing smart technologies.

Among the most important in rehabilitation of historical heritage are, among others, the expansion of the Museum of Fine Arts in Oviedo and performances in the Cathedral of Mondoñedo (Lugo), in the Finca El Parral (Burgos), in the Palacio de los Fernández Alejo (Toledo), the Monastery of Iratxe (Navarra), the Royal House of Alzira (Valencia) and the New Monastery of San Juan de la Peña (Huesca).

The The plan also allocates 45 million euros to finance investments aimed at improving the urban landscapes that the Roads cross, such as those related to the improvement of mobility, signaling and accessibility in the different routes, beautification of historic centers and rehabilitation of cultural assets.
