Koba, Babel (ANTARA) – The central government of the Bangka Regency in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province is stepping up efforts to eradicate mosquito nests to prevent transmission of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).
Bangka Central Health Bureau chief Anas Maarif in Koba on Sunday said activities to eradicate mosquito nests (PSNs) that mediate dengue virus transmission have been stepped up as the number of dengue cases tends to increase.
According to him, the number of dengue cases in central Bangka, which was 103 cases as of May 2022, has now reached 195 cases.
“Of the 195 cases, six people were reported dead because medical care was delayed,” he said.
He stated that PSN with 3M Plus is an effective way to suppress DHF transmission.
PSN includes activities to drain and close water tanks, reuse waste, as well as additional preventive measures such as breeding mosquito-eating fish, working together to clean the environment, and spraying larvicides into water tanks.
According to data from the health service, there are three sub-districts in the central Bangka regency that have a high number of dengue cases, namely Pangkalanbaru, Lubuk Besar and Sungaiselan.
Anas said the number of dengue cases has generally been high in densely populated residential areas that have not been kept clean of the environment.
“Those three sub-districts are densely populated areas, so it is our goal to carry out PSN activities that are also socializing the one house one jumantik movement program,” he said.
