“Mihhail Kõlvart has proven himself as a capable and results-oriented politician,” said Erki Savisaar, chairman of the Central Party council. “Under the leadership of Mihhail Kõlvart, the city of Tallinn has become a modern and European capital, and as the head of the Union of Estonian Cities and Municipalities, he is well aware of the progress of Estonian municipalities. Several Tallinn initiatives, such as free public transport, have also found application in the international arena. The fact that Mihhail Kõlvart has received a very strong mandate from the voters in several national elections is also not insignificant.”
In addition to Mihhail Kõlvart, the Center Party’s electoral list includes Lauri Laats, Erki Savisaar, Anneli Ott, Andrei Korobeinik, Janek Mäggi, Monika Haukanõmm, Aivar Riisalu and Jana Toom as anchorwoman. “On our election list, you can find politicians with ministerial experience as well as members of the Riigikogu, heads of municipalities and experts in various fields, whose knowledge and experience would benefit the whole of Europe. Our list is strong enough to receive the greatest possible support,” confirmed Mihhail Kõlvart, chairman of the Estonian Center Party.
“Jana Toom, who worked in the European Parliament for two terms, has represented Estonia’s interests with dignity and effectiveness in Brussels. Among other things, he has paid attention to issues concerning people’s livelihood, decent income, freedom of speech and violence against women. I see that Jana Toomi has good opportunities to continue as a member of the European Parliament,” added Mihhail Kõlvart.
The election platform of the European Parliament was also introduced at the council session, the main message of which is clearly standing up for the interests of Estonian people and a strong European Union. “Estonia needs to straighten its back in Europe and more courageously stand up for its interests. Based on ten years of experience, I can confirm that Estonia has the opportunity to make itself heard in Brussels, but it will take serious effort. Unfortunately, we are increasingly experiencing that Estonia accepts the initiatives coming from Brussels too lightly,” explained Jana Toom.
Jana Toom added that pan-European economic measures must be implemented to reduce inequality. “To ensure a decent life for everyone, we support the development of the European Union’s minimum income framework and support initiatives to ensure women’s financial independence and reduce women’s unemployment. We are also of the opinion that during the crisis, the excessive profits of companies must be taxed at the European level,” said the vice-chairman of the Center Party.
Jana Toom emphasized that the decisions of the European Parliament should not be taken lightly, but every step must be thoroughly considered. “The Center Party does not support obligations that do not have a sufficient impact analysis and a clear financing plan,” he specified. “Inclusion is the foundation of political trust. We strive to ensure that the Estonian Riigikogu, local governments, civil associations and interest groups are included in the European Union policy discussions at the earliest possible stage. Decision making must be clear, comprehensible and transparent.”
