The Center Party’s national meeting decided on Saturday that the party will collect VAT for new electric cars that cost more than 600,000 kroner. The VAT exemption will continue to apply up to 600,000, while full VAT of 25 percent will be paid for amounts above this limit, the Center Party believes.
The Labor Party and SV have previously made similar decisions, which means that this can be introduced if there is a change of government after the election in September.
At the same time, the SP national meeting decided that the usage benefits for electric cars should be phased out gradually.
«Symbol policy»
– Unnecessary symbol policy. This will limit the electric car share and obviously mean something for our sales, says Morten Scheel, CEO of Autozentrum Sport, which imports and sells Porsche in Norway.
He says that the basic version of the best-selling Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo costs 850,000 kroner, and quickly one million kroner with extra equipment. With full VAT over 600,000, this means that this model will be NOK 100,000 more expensive for the customer.
The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo was an immediate success when it first arrived in Norway in January last year. With sales of 1221 copies in 2020, this model turned a minus into a plus and ensured years of the year for the Norwegian Porsche importer with more than doubling operating revenues.
Wants predictability
All the most expensive electric cars will be affected if the VAT exemption is removed, such as the most expensive models from Tesla and Mercedes. BMW’s new model iX is expected this autumn, and with a price of almost one million kroner, this model will also initially be 100,000 kroner more expensive.
– It is not a right way to do it when this comes suddenly and overnight. We are in favor of a sensible phasing out of the electric car benefits, but we primarily want predictability, says Scheel.(Terms)Copyright Dagens Næringsliv AS and / or our suppliers.
