The Center Party gave Christmas wishes to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas

The representatives of the Center Party handed over the Christmas wishes sent by the people of Estonia to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, the message of which is briefly: “Leave the office of Prime Minister and take the tax increases with you!”

“Christmas is a time of wishes and a time when miracles happen. Thousands of people have clearly expressed themselves through the campaign of the Central Party that they do not support the policy and continuation of the current coalition,” said the General Secretary of the Central Party Anneli Ott. “Estonia’s economy is on the decline and the government has not presented a credible plan to solve the crisis.”

On Tuesday, the Central Party gave the Riigikogu nearly 30,000 signatures demanding the resignation of Kaja Kallas, the parliament will process the popular initiative next year. “The Center Party’s pan-Estonian campaign, which lasted less than a month, and the feedback received as part of it regarding the government’s activities were extremely critical. Economic recession and rising unemployment cannot be stopped with tax increases and cuts. In addition to all this, more than ten thousand people in different parts of Estonia were without electricity for days, and the beginning of the new year brings a teachers’ strike, because the government could not find the money for the promised salary increase,” said Anneli Ott.

“Immediately before Christmas, further confusion was caused by Finance Minister Mart Võrklaev, who announced a plan to cancel a 400 million euro tax increase, which is still a partial plan by the minister, because the Reform Party’s 500 million euro income tax reform, which brings significant additional income only to the wealthiest social strata, needs to be revised.” added Anneli Ott.
