The organizers took advantage of the popular Vinařský to allow the sale of St. Martin’s wine this year from Friday 8 November, although tradition says that it will only be sold on the feast of St. Martin, i.e., 11 November . “It’s good, especially when it’s a weekend before the holidays,” said Pavel Krátký on Horní náměstí, who arrived at the event with friends from Přerov.
On Dolní náměstí, where the event was organized by the Olomouc wine association, visitors could taste, for example, wine from Konečný Winery in Čejkovice. “We decided to offer St. Martin Müller Thürgau wine, Zweigeltrebe rose and Modrý portugal, and from Solaris and Regent young wines,” said winery owner Stanislav Konečný.
People in the squares tasted, among other things, also St. Lawrence, Moravian Muscat or early red Veltlín. There were stalls selling food in the form of St. Martin’s goose legs, sausages, cheeses, but also sweet treats and gift items under siege. There was also music.
Winemakers who came to Olomouc agreed that this year was difficult for them. Part of the harvest was destroyed by the spring frost, in the rainy June the winegrowers had to fight with fungi, and then a long and dry summer followed. The harvest began a month earlier. “The old days were short and fast. It can be said that before we usually start, we were already ready,” said Konečný.
According to him, the great drought caused the grapes to purify water, to be dry, light and give less juice. “However, the wines from them are very full and full of fruit, they have less acidity, which is why they are very drinkable,” said the winemaker.
There will be a third less young wine by Naomh Martin this year
