The Celtic de Villa Mercedes women’s futsal team became runners-up in the Argentine Cup – El Chorrillero

The Villa Mercedes women’s futsal team of Los Celtic became runners-up in the Argentine Cup in San Juan. This victory paved the way for them to compete in next year’s Copa Libertadores.

From September 18 to 22, the girls traveled to San Juan to participate in the tournament where they reached the final.

In the group stage, they achieved a 15-2 victory against El Tero de Lezama and a 4-0 victory against Palmira Futsal Mendoza.

When facing Atlético Tucumán they lost the match 3 to 1, but the goal difference allowed them to advance to the semifinals, where they challenged Escuela Municipalidad de Ushuaia, and obtained a 4 to 3 victory that took them to the final, in which They lost 2 to 1 against Atlético Tucumán.

The last two finalist teams won a place in the eliminations of the Copa Libertadores 2025, with date and place to be confirmed.

In addition, the national tournament brought two awards: Marcela Salazar was considered the best player of the Cup and Jessica Machuca received the goalscorer medal.

The club does not have its own space, therefore, the women train in different spaces in the city. They are currently organized to practice on a court located in Chacabuco and Dr. Mestre, and in the courtyard of the Normal School.

The ages of the players range between 20 and 39 years old. The majority are from Villa Mercedes, but there are also members from Fraga, Juan Llerena and San Luis, and they are under the technical direction of Joaquín and José Páez.

Qualification also allowed them to enter a tournament where the four best teams in the country compete. They are still waiting for the final dates due to the scheduling of other championships.
