Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Scientists from the Guangdong Center for Disease Prevention and Control in China published their research in the preprint journal Virological.
In that study, scientists revealed two new facts about the Delta variant aka B1617.2. It is believed, both are related to nature varian delta which is so contagious.
First, the average viral load or viral load in patients infected with the Delta variant was 1,620 times higher than the original variant. This indicates faster replication.
“These data emphasize that the Delta variant may be more infectious in the early stages of infection,” the scientists wrote.
Second, patients infected with the Delta variant of COVID-19 tend to get positive results earlier than the original variant in the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test.
“The combination of a very high viral load with a short incubation period is believed to explain why the Delta variant is more infectious,” said Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong.
