The Cause of Germany, Who Was Praised To Be Hit By The 4th Wave Of Covid

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaGermany is currently experiencing wave 4 of Covid-19. Thursday (11/11/2021), Europe’s largest economy posted an additional 50,196 cases a day

This is the biggest record during the pandemic. Whereas in the past, Germany was one of the countries that was praised for handling Covid-19.

This is in fact a big concern for the federal government. Chancellor Angela Merkel is said to be in the middle of a meeting with state prime ministers (PM) to discuss the response to the Covid-19 crisis.

“This virus is spreading with drama and a swift response is needed,” said government spokesman Steffen Seibert.

German virologist Christian Drosten also assesses the same action. He said the country could see 100,000 deaths from the virus if the spread was not immediately contained.

So how did this explosion happen?

The number of residents who are reluctant to be vaccinated is the reason why the increase occurred. The Covid-19 vaccine clinically reduces infection, hospitalization, and virus death, although immunity has been reported by studies to be reduced by six months and requires booster injections.

To date, only 69.8% of the German population has received a single dose of the vaccine. Recipients of two new doses were 67.3%.

German Health Minister Jens Spahn has publicly blamed vaccinating groups for the surge in cases. He described the current situation as a “pandemic of unvaccinated citizens”.

So far, Germany alone has a total of 4.9 million cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began in 2020. Yesterday there were 223 deaths which brought the total figure to 97,822.

Carnival

Meanwhile, Germany itself will hold a carnival in the city of Cologne, western Germany. Only residents who have been vaccinated are allowed to take part in the festival.

However, the carnival was overshadowed by the soaring Covid-19 cases. In fact, as reported by the DPA news agency, quoted by VOA, the chairman of the organizers was also infected with Covid-19 even though he had been vaccinated and canceled his annual agenda there.

In early March 2020, Covid-19 first attacked Germany in Heinsberg. This happened after people celebrated a similar carnival indoors.
