The Cathedral of Malaga has completed a sculpture of Saint Joseph made by Fernando Ortiz in the 18th century with the image of a Child Jesus that has been released on the occasion of the celebration of the Year of Saint Joseph promulgated by the Pope Francisco. The original Child who owned this sculpture disappeared and had not been replaced until now. The Cathedral Cabildo entrusted this task to the Huelva-born image maker Abraham Ceada, which has followed the canons of the Ortiz style.
The result can already be admired in the main altar of the Cathedral, where the image of Saint Joseph is exposed, together with the Christ of Clemency (Old Mutilated Christ) on the occasion of the celebration of Lent that begins this Wednesday.
«The Cathedral continues, thus, taking care of its heritage and exposing it to the devotion of all the people who want to pray before these images. Recently the Cristo del Perdón by Pedro de Mena, the Cristo de la Victoria, by Alonso de Mena, and the Cristo de la Clemencia, by Jerónimo Gómez de Hermosilla have been restored ”, recalled the dean, Antonio Aguilera.
