the case – Police confirm: The son charged

Monday night, the prominent lawyer Tor Kjærvik (70) was shot and killed on Røa in Oslo. A man in his 30s was quickly arrested and charged with murder.

The police confirm in a press release on Tuesday afternoon that the accused is Kjærvik’s son. It is currently unclear how he will respond to the accusation.

– He is explaining himself about the actual conditions. He even called the police from his hometown and reported, writes the accused’s defender, John Christian Elden, in an SMS to Dagbladet on Tuesday afternoon.

At 3 pm, the police inform that the charge has been extended to apply to murder and attempted murder.

– Attached to action

The attempted murder concerns the cohabitant of the deceased. She is physically unharmed, but was present when the incident took place, says section leader Anne Alræk Solem in the police.

At the same time, the police report that the accused is being questioned and has been linked to the act.

– He explains the reason, but I will not comment on it now, says Solem, and adds that the accused is cooperative and has been interrogated since 12.00 on Tuesday.

The accused has not taken a position on criminal guilt as of now, the police say.

Ellen Holager Andenæs has been appointed as an assistance lawyer in the case. She writes in an SMS to Dagbladet just before 14.00 that she is busy interrogating.

– Conflict over time

The defender of the accused, John Christian Elden, says NRK there was a long-running conflict between the accused and Kjærvik.

– There has been a conflict here for some time, a family conflict, which has had a tragic outcome.

He did not want to comment on the nature of the relationship further, or anticipate the accused’s explanation to NRK.

Elden confirmed to Dagbladet earlier on Tuesday that he has been appointed as the accused’s defender.

Signed up

– My client reported himself to the police. He will be questioned, Elden told Dagbladet earlier today.

Police say in a press release at 3 pm that the accused was arrested outside, near the scene.

– The accused even called the police yesterday, and that is the background for the arrest, Solem states.

Experienced defender

Anne Alræk Solem in the police says during a press briefing on Tuesday morning that the police have been in contact with relatives in the case, and that they can therefore confirm that it is Kjærvik who was shot and killed.

– It is a family relationship, and one does not go further into what we put in a close relationship, Solem said.

Tor Kjærvik was a very experienced lawyer, and worked in the firm Advokatene at the Courthouse in Oslo. Among other things, he was a defender for Kristin Kirkemo in the well-known Orderud case.

He was also a lawyer in the Nokas case, the Landsås case and in connection with the murder of Kristin Juel Johannessen.
