The Case of Nanjak Returns Makes Jokowi Uneasy, COVID-19 Rises Again in 20 Regencies/Cities

Nationally, developments coronavirus case in Indonesia has decreased. Currently (update 30/10/2021), there are 12 thousand active cases with a percentage of 0.29 percent. It’s a far cry from the highest total cases last July, which reached 574 thousand.

But unfortunately there are still some areas that are experiencing an increasing trend of Covid-19 cases. In response to the increase, the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G. Plate, asked the public to increase their vigilance by following health protocols.

“The slightest increase in cases, is proof that COVID-19 virus still alive around us. We must not relax health protocols, because any carelessness can trigger a re-occurrence of the transmission process and a spike in cases,” said Johnny, quoted from an official statement (31/10/2021).

It was observed that 20 regions experienced an increasing trend of positive cases of Covid-19 for the last 7 weeks. This is a common alarm, because considering previous experiences, during long holidays such as at the end of the year, it will increase community mobility and contribute to a spike in cases.

“Ascension coronavirus case in the regions must be a common concern because this has entered the phase ahead of the Nataru holiday (Christmas and New Years,” added Johny.

Seeing the increase in cases, President Jokowi expressed his concern if there was a spike in cases again (Wave III). Considering that some areas are also reported to have a low level of process compliance.

The following is a list of 20 regions with an increasing trend of Covid-19 cases for 17 weeks:

1. East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta
2. Depok City, West Java
3. Bekasi City, West Java
4. Blora, Central Java
5. Surakarta City, Central Java
6. Jember, East Java
7. Nagan Raya, Aceh
8. South Labuhanbatu, North Sumatra
9. Meranti Islands, Riau
10. South Bangka, Bangka Belitung
11. South Solok, West Sumatra
12. Sintang, West Kalimantan
13. Sambas, West Kalimantan
14. Bengkayang, West Kalimantan
15. West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan
16. Lamandau, Central Kalimantan
17. Bima, West Nusa Tenggara
18. Southeast Minahasa, Southeast Sulawesi
19. Buton, Southeast Sulawesi
20. Bulukumba, South Sulawesi
