The animated film “Moana”, released in 2016, became the most viewed project in the library of the Disney+ streaming service. He reached 80 billion minutes.
Thus, the cartoon about a girl who decided to save her island from divine wrath was watched more than 748 million times. Not a single film or series from the Star Wars or Marvel Universes could achieve such results.
This figure bodes well for the sequel, which is due out on November 27. Moreover, Moana 2 has already set a record for pre-sales of tickets among animated releases this year, which previously belonged to Inside Out 2. But Pixar’s new creation earned $1.7 billion. It’s safe to say that the sequel will be included in this year’s “billionaires’ club.”
Let us remind you that the first “Moana” earned more than $640 million at the box office. In 2017, the film was nominated for an Oscar in two categories – for best song and best animated film, but lost to La La Land and Zootopia, respectively.
Meanwhile, The Walt Disney Company, which also includes Fox, announced the revival of the popular animated franchise Ice Age. The last part of the series, Collision Is Inevitable, was also released in 2016, received mixed reviews and earned less than expected at the box office – just over 400 million.
