The Carrión region to hold discussions on the state of its fields as proposed by the Diputación

The monastery of San Zoilo de Carrión de los Condes will host this Tuesday the I Campo Palentino Congress, organized by the Provincial Council. A meeting that was born with a vocation for the future that has already registered 250 and hopes to reach 300, in which professionals from the sector will discuss the present and future challenges of agriculture and livestock in the province.

In this forum the accent will be placed on Palencia as a “regional cereal bastion”. And it is that, according to the promoters of the event, the province is at the top of the ranking of area planted with cereals. Not surprisingly, in the 2021/2022 campaign it registered an area of more than 285,000 hectares, in which farmers from Palencia produced more than 950,000 tons, which represents almost a fifth of the five million total harvest achieved in Castilla y León.

Hence, the institution, through its Agriculture area, is committed to events of this importance that have the countryside and the primary sector as protagonists, which were defined as the “backbones” of the provincial economy. This was stated today by the first vice president and deputy for Economic Promotion, Luis Calderón, who wanted to value “that essential role” of the farmers of the province in regional agriculture.

He also pointed out that “the choice of this historic town to hold the meeting is not accidental, due to its strategic location next to the Carrión River and in the heart of Tierra de Campos, one of the largest granaries in Castilla y León and Spain.”

INNOVATION

The program aims to cover all aspects related to innovation, fertilization or plant health of cereal crops. In addition, it will analyze absolutely topical issues such as the CAP or the evolution of the markets.

Seeds, fertilizers, plant health, carbon credits and prices will be some of the issues to be addressed in the forum, which will be closed by the president of the Provincial Council, Ángeles Armisén.
Registration can be completed on the website www.campocyl.es.
