The Gran Teatro de Córdoba has hosted this Friday, February 18, the Senior Carnival, where five groups made up of people linked to the city’s active participation centers have participated. The seats in the venue were filled and the festive atmosphere invaded each and every one of its sections.
The show was opened by a musical performance by Javier Lonene and his band. The Cordoban singer-songwriter presented his new album, My carnival made song with the themes How pretty you look, Winter and I’m yoursthe latter dedicated to the city of Córdoba.
Lonene dedicated a few words to Córdoba and the carnivals after his performance: “I am delighted to be here, I have been a carnival-lover since I was very young and I have been composing comparsas ever since; in 2013 I wrote this song, I’m yourswhich praises the beauty of Córdoba because there is nothing more beautiful than being cordovan“.
At 5:30 p.m., the first group of older people left, Roman Osario. Formed by 12 participants dressed in costumes of Roman soldiers with half swords. One of them, Nicolás, affirmed that “the group has not missed a single rehearsal” and that, “above all, we come with the intention of participating rather than winning a prize, motivated by the beautiful union of the groups “.
The second group was The Prisoners, from Alcolea. With a prison theme and dressed in orange jumpsuits, two chirigotas sang alluding to the covid: “You have held me prisoner for a long time, let’s see if you break my chains for Carnival,” they intoned.
Then it was the group’s turn. Harlem, made up of ten women dressed as basketball players. Their songs toured all the key places in the city of Córdoba, such as Las Tendillas, the Patio de los Naranjos or the Mosque-Cathedral.
The fourth group left at 18:30. It was the turn of The Conspiracy theorists. With a photo of Miguel Bosé in the background, they covered the singer’s songs and parodied Bosé’s comments on covid-19: “I got the vaccine and set up a hardware store,” they sing in one of his chirigotas.
This group from an active participation center in Levante wore toilet costumes, but covered with metallic elements and 5G symbols.
Lastly, they came on stage The ones from the Bolsoi, a group from the La Foggara Civic Center (North Poniente). These participants were dressed as ballet dancers in a pink tutu and comically pretended to be in a dance class.
As an intermission, it was also possible to enjoy The bandone of the groups that has been a finalist in the Córdoba Carnival Contest, whose final gala is celebrated this Saturday, February 19.
The celebration was also attended by the mayor of Cordoba, Jose María Bellido, and the delegate of Social Services and the Elderly, Eva Contador. The delegate attended with a charleston costume, type years 40, and encouraged the spectators to dress up next year in the next carnivals.
“It is a joy that after almost two years without doing fun things with our elders, we can throw such a fun party that they love. In addition, they have prepared everything, their costumes, their songs; In short, we are going to enjoy a memorable afternoon and forget about all the bad things that have happened”, commented Contador.
For his part, Bellido pointed out that it is “a pleasure to resume the carnivals with all the centers for the elderly in Córdoba, with the participation in one way or another of all the elderly in our city, either on stage or in the stalls” . To which he added: “The important thing is to resume our parties and, above all, contact with our elders“.
