The care society, a challenge for the Church

Review

The “care crisis” has its roots in the bonds crisis and has
its manifestations in the carelessness towards “our oppressed and devastated
earth»4, in the neglect towards our brothers and sisters under the «culture
of discarding»5, and in the neglect of our interior life that is so closely related to
with «care for ecology and the common good»6. And it is a mistake to think that the
interest in disabled and dependent people is a particular interest and not a collective interest. It is a concept of common good. This is one of the areas in which Pope Francis focuses when he denounces the attitude of indifference to the needs of others.

Social and ecclesiastical organizations have responded promptly and
creativity to the social impact of this situation. The Church has shown itself to be an “expert in humanity” (Saint Paul VI) in complex moments. For this reason, in this course experiences are made visible that show that dose of humanity that human beings have (restorative justice, in the face of human trafficking, victims of abuse, in welcoming immigrants) and that for the Church means that People are created to love. «In the midst of limits, gestures of generosity, solidarity and care inevitably sprout».
