Carbon monoxide was produced in a condominium apartment during the operation of the instantaneous water heater on August 1 in Székesfehérvár. In the bathroom of the Honvéd utca apartment, the signal of the carbon monoxide detector warned the residents of the danger of the poisonous gas. Instrumental measurements by the county seat’s professional firefighters detected carbon monoxide even after the apartment was ventilated and the open-burner gas appliance was switched on again. The disaster management notified the gas supplier, whose specialist arrived on the scene. There were no personal injuries.
Many people associate the formation of toxic gas with the heating season, even though many households use gas-powered, wall-mounted water heaters and boilers to produce hot water all year round, so the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning in these apartments is a threat all year round. Therefore, in addition to ensuring adequate air supply and regular inspection and maintenance of the gas appliance, it is very important to use a reliable carbon monoxide detector.
