The court granted the prosecutor’s request for the most severe measure of restraint “detention in custody” against the captain of the cargo ship stranded off the coast of Kamen Bryag and his second assistant – a captain who was on watch the night of the incident.

The law provides for a sentence of 5 to 15 years’ imprisonment for this crime.

By order of the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Geshev, the investigation is being conducted by a team of investigators from the National Investigation Service. Direct monitoring of the work on the pre-trial proceedings continues to be carried out by the Dobrich District Prosecutor’s Office.

The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office is also monitoring the case.
