The capitals of the Canary Islands will collaborate to organize Christmas and Carnival | BE Las Palmas

The mayors of the two capitals of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands have agreed to establish joint actions to organize the Christmas and Carnival festivities, which they consider fundamental for the economy and culture of the islands.

Thus, the mayors of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Augusto Hidalgo, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, have asked the Government of the Canary Islands to convene a working table to guarantee the celebration of both events.

The meeting that the mayors have held this Tuesday has been to address issues that affect both municipalities and, which, for the most part, stem from the health crisis as a result of the Ccovid19.

The mayors have been accompanied by the councilors of Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, from the capital of Tenerife, and Inmaculada Medina, from Gran Canaria.

With the visit, the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria wanted to return the meeting that they held on June 8 in the capital of Gran Canaria and that have served to form a joint strategy to manage, in the best possible way, the resources of both cities for economic and social recovery in the current situation.

Among the issues discussed, the celebration of the Christmas and Carnival events has stood out, in reference to the publication made in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands of September 6, of Decree Law 11/2021, of September 2, which establishes the legal health alert regime and the measures for the control and management of the pandemic in the Canary Islands.

José Manuel Bermúdez has explained in a statement that they have identified that they must hold an urgent meeting with the Government of the Canary Islands to clear up doubts that add uncertainty and that generate “a very important weakness.”

The mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has indicated that they have reached the conclusion that they will guarantee the celebration of the Carnival of contests and galas.

Regarding the street, he acknowledged that it is early to make decisions in this regard, but they will work in a way in terms of dates, organization and work procedures because Carnival is an event “very important, economically and culturally, to have a workspace that benefits the thousands of people who depend on our most important party. “

Those responsible for the festivities of the two capitals of the Canary Islands will ask the regional government that the meeting take place before October 15, “since from that date we can put at risk the return to the rehearsal premises and the celebration itself, both contests and galas, “said Cabello.

The regional Executive has announced that they will establish a series of meetings with various sectors and groups to discuss the measures of the approved decree, so they understand that in the context of the municipalities that celebrate Carnival, they must have a meeting of similar characteristics to analyze the fit of these measures, Inmaculada Medina has advanced.
