Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen believes that his Italian team, Napoli, has the potential to qualify for the Champions League title, after reaching the quarter-finals of the continental championship for the first time in its history.
Osimhen scored two goals to help Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 on Wednesday night in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, after winning the first leg in Frankfurt with two goals free, to outperform the two matches 5-0.
Osimhen told BT Sport: “I think anything can happen, and we have the team that can make this dream come true. We want to go step by step and see what happens at the end of the season.
The Nigerian striker explained: It is good to make history through this victory, it was a huge victory, congratulations to the team for the good performance by all the players. We are a big club and we can match any team that draws us. It will be a massive game, we are ready for it, we are ready to meet any team we may face.
Osimhen became the first player in Naples to score in the two-legged Champions League knockout matches and missed the opportunity to get a hat-trick after allowing Piotr Zelensky to take the penalty kick.
Osimhen said about the penalty kick: Zielinski asked me if he could shoot, of course I am a team player, it does not matter who scores as long as the team achieves success. I know that the goals will come whether we are awarded a penalty or not, it is good to have this mentality in the team, and I am happy with the three goals.
