The candidates for the best of musical theater are already here – Shows

­`Come From Away’, with 23 nominations; `Dracula, the musical’, with 17 and `My imaginary gift’, with 15, top the list of favorite works of the Hugo Awards 2022, which distinguish musical theater activity in Argentina and which will be delivered on September 19 at Teatro Astral. The delivery of diplomas to the nominees will take place, meanwhile, on Monday the 22nd of this month in the auditorium of the Santander Foundation.

This twelfth season of the Hugos arrives with novelties since seven categories of awards referring to musical theater for children, adolescents and youth were added, among which they will award Leading Performance, Supporting Performance, Production, Scenography and Costumes. In total there are 49 categories that will be distinguished.

Proposals of the genre created in the interior of the country will also be awarded in the segment Federal Hugo Awardsfor which works from Bahía Blanca, Córdoba, Greater Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Mar del Plata, Rosario and Tucumán compete.

The local version of the Broadway hit `Come from Away’, which recounts the effects of the attack on the Twin Towers in a remote Canadian town, is a candidate in categories such as Musical, Direction (Carla Calabrese), Choreography (Agustín Pérez Costa), Actress and Leading Actor (Melania Lenoir and Edgardo Moreira), among others.

Meanwhile, `Drácula’, the piece by Pepe Cibrian Campoy and Angel Mahler, competes in the sections of Musical, Direction (Pepe Cibrián and Hernán Kuttel), Book, Musical Direction and Leading and Supporting Actress (Cecilia Milone and Josefina Scaglione) , the more.

Added to the names of Cibrián/Kuttel and Calabrese in the General Management category are those of Aníbal Pachano/Alejandro Lavallén (for `So… I’m back’) and Jorgelina Aruzzi/Carlos Casella (for `Thoroughbred’). Along with `Drácula’ and `Come From Away’, the quartet of candidates for Best Musical is completed by `Footloose’ and `Thoroughbred’.
