Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart presents the deputy mayor candidates Tiit Teriku and Andrei Kante to the council for approval.
As a member of the city government, Tiit Terik will be responsible for managing city property, municipal police, preparedness for crises and sports, and Andrei Kante will be in charge of education.
“The selection of new deputy mayors was determined by the competence and professional background of the candidates,” said Mihhail Kõlvart. “Both Tiit Terik’s and Andrei Kante’s education and previous work experience support the ability to cope with the challenges of city management. Difficult tasks await in the fields of both deputy mayors: in the field of city property and city economy, it is necessary to move forward with large projects such as City Hall and Tallinn Hospital, and the Tallinn City Theater building must be completed. In terms of education, the development of the school network, the implementation of the educational reform initiated by the government, and the ever-growing challenges with children with special educational needs await.
In 2015, Tiit Terik obtained a master’s degree in political science at Tallinn University and previously received a higher education in youth work and social work from the Tallinn Pedagogical Seminary. Since August 2022, Tiit Terik has been the deputy chairman of the Tallinn council, the minister of culture in 2021-2022 and the chairman of the Tallinn council in 2019-2021, while also leading the Union of Estonian Cities and Towns. In the years 2016-2019, Terik was a member of the 13th member of the Riigikogu, and in 2007-2016 he headed the district administration of Nõmme and Pirita. Terik is a member of the Central Party and belongs to the Harju maleva of the Defense League.
In 2015, Andrei Kante obtained a master’s degree in educational management at Tallinn University. He graduated from Tallinn University in 2008 with a minor in chemistry majoring in biology, and at the same time obtained a master’s degree as a marine biologist-environmental specialist. In 2021, Kante was elected to the Tallinn City Council. Since 2017, Kante has been the director of Lasnamäe Gymnasium, and since 2019 he has also been the director of Lasnamäe Russian Gymnasium. In the years 2006-2019, he has been a biology and chemistry teacher and development manager at the Tallinn Humanities High School, and in 2007-2010 a laboratory technician at the Estonian Maritime Institute of the University of Tartu.
Deputy mayor Vladimir Svet, who will also manage the city’s environment and utilities, will be responsible for managing the transport sector in the city government.
Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart submits the candidates for deputy mayor to the agenda of the council meeting on April 20 for approval.
