Gabriel Amard, regional councilor La France insoumise and son-in-law of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, announced his candidacy for the legislative elections in Villeurbanne, in the sixth district of the Rhône, where an elected socialist is already on the list. The politician responded to the accusations of parachuting with BFMTV, Sunday, May 8.
Barely formed, the New Popular Ecologist and Social Union (Nupes) in view of the legislative elections (12 and 19 June next) is already experiencing tensions.
In Villeurbanne (Rhône), the possible parachuting of the son-in-law of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Gabriel Amard, in the sixth district of the department, goes badly with the socialists.
While Cristina Martineau, deputy mayor, should have competed in the legislative elections for the Socialist Party (PS), Gabriel Amard was officially invested by Nupes. The regional councilor of rebellious France announced his candidacy on April 21. “Parachuting a candidate in Villeurbanne when the agreement with LFI has existed since the municipal elections two years ago, and it works, is a mistake”regretted with Lyon Capitale Cédric Van Styvendael, the PS mayor of Villeurbanne.
“A return to the family fold”
Gabriel Amard responded to accusations of parachuting with BFMTV, Sunday, May 8. “It’s a return to the family fold, my maternal family has lived here since the 19th century. I live in Villeurbanne, not in Paris”, he justified himself. The relative of Jean-Luc Mélenchon returned to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region as a regional councilor since 2021, after having spent a long part of his political career in Île-de-France.
The assistant to the mayor for early childhood and the elderly, Cristina Martineau, did not digest this candidacy which she considers “macho” from rebellious France. “Today, the union of the left makes the choice of nepotism, machismo and parachuting”she denounced at the microphone of BFM Lyon.
