The Canary Islands Government will deliver the first homes to those affected by the La Palma volcano this Monday | Radio Club Tenerife | Present

The public housing company of the Canary Islands (Visocan) summons this Monday the first families to sign a document of “temporary cession” of five houses in Fuencaliente. It is expected that between this Tuesday and Wednesday they will deliver another thirteen in Tazacorte to those affected by the La Palma volcano. There are only five houses to supply the almost 1,700 that the volcano has taken away.

As recognized by Antonio Olivera, the vice-counselor of the Presidency of the Autonomous Government, “the plan continues as originally planned.”

The need is enormous and urgent because almost 500 families are still hosted in hotels. For this reason, the Government of the Canary Islands is trying to find land to build another thirty prefabricated wooden houses acquired for those affected, but it is not easy.

“Now we have to proceed with their installation. They have tried to locate land where they could be installed. Not just anyone is valid because they have to have access to water and electricity,” said Olivera who added that “these homes will take a few days to complete. install”

It is not about stacking houses but about urbanizing large living areas with access to sanitation, electricity or water. The Cabildo de La Palma has given a floor of 7,600 square meters that was destined to the creation of an insular auditorium.

Meanwhile, the Canary Islands Government works together with the Central Government with the aim of requesting and obtaining a part of the budget of the European Solidarity Fund destined to cover the costs of catastrophes. “We are within the time,” said the Deputy Minister of the Presidency in Hoy por Hoy La Portada. The European Union foresees a period of twelve weeks to obtain this aid from the beginning of the eruption of the volcano, on 19 September.
