The Canadian late after two periods in Calgary

After 40 minutes, the Flames lead 3-1.

Sean Monahan threw the Flames forward early in the first period after he joined forces with Brett Ritchie to force Joel Armia to commit a turnaround behind the Canadiens’ net. The Ontarian scored his 200th NHL goal.

The 201st was not long in coming as Monahan doubled the local lead in power play a few minutes later. His stick pushed a leaping puck behind the red line.

Mikael Backlund scored his team’s third goal in the second period. Andrew Mangiapane won his duel with Jeff Petry behind the goal line and was able to hand Backlund in front of the net.

The visitors entered the score when both teams were playing short of a man. Jonathan Drouin found Petry late on his own with a skilful backhand pass, and the defender landed a perfect shot in the upper part of the cage.

Carey Price is again in net for the Habs, he who had given way to Jake Allen for the first leg of his stay in Alberta. Dominique Ducharme made only one other change to his formation: Jake Evans replaces Artturi Lehkonen.

Flames coach Darryl Sutter handed the net over to Jacob Markstrom again and only changed one of his defensive pairs, as Nikita Nesterov gave way to Oliver Kylington.

Josh Leivo scored both goals for the Flames on Thursday night in his 2-1 win over the Canadiens. Sutter then made his comeback behind the bench. Corey Perry had scored the only goal for the Habs.
