The Canadian Grand Prix goes by the wayside

The start of the Formula 1 season is again delayed. Scheduled for June 14, the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal is the latest victim of the coronavirus pandemic.

This is the ninth of twenty-two races on the calendar has been postponed or canceled.

The postponement was not easy for the organizers to take. But the health prescriptions decreed by the authorities left no room for doubt. “We are always looking forward to the trip to Montreal. This time, we will have to wait longer but if we come later in the season, we will show a giant show,” said Formula 1 chief Chase Carey. .

Before Montreal, races in Australia, Bahrain, Vietnam, China, the Netherlands, Spain, Monaco and Azerbaijan had already been canceled or postponed. And to save the season, the possibility of competing in camera is topical. The teams, F1 leaders and FIA president Jean Todt reportedly raised the subject during a conference call.

Formula 1 hopes that the situation in Europe will be improved in July or August for disputes over races without spectators.

From now on, the season will not start before the end of June with the Grand Prix de France at Le Castellet on June 28.
