The students of the Campus Theater Class concluded their tour in Tangier with the play “As cidades agochadas”, under the direction of the actor from Ourense Fernando Dacosta, who also took on dramaturgy and stage space, and they have returned with the best gift, nothing less than two awards: the one for human rights and another for the best experimental work, which the team from Ourense received after their participation in the FITUT, the International University Theater Festival of Tangier, in Morocco.
As explained by the Campus Theater Classroom run by Sarabela Teatro, “The play was received exceptionally by the public” and was the icing on the cake and recognition of a tour “that provided knowledge, both about theater and to the students of the Ourense Campus, and allowed their work to be made known.” They were not only in Tangier, but also in cities such as Lisbon, Pontevedra, Ourense, Santiago, Burgos, León, Vigo, Pamplona, Granada or Covilhã “with a very good reception among spectators,” they indicate.
In “As cidades achadas”, inspired by a work by Italo Calvino, the theme of an emperor who wants to know what the cities of his empire are like and a traveler who tells him about it, although, while they talk, various cities emerge that intertwine. with poetry, with rhythm, with misery, with desire, with invisibility, with exchange, with memory, with signs, with death, with humor,” they explain.
“The emperor dominates, but does not know” they warn in the synopsis, and “the traveler knows, but does not want to dominate. “Both dream cities, tell stories about cities, listen to and vomit cities, while they get to know each other on the definitive journey.”
With the successful tour of this work in which a cast of university students are involved, “another new cycle opens, which coincides with the beginning of classes for the new year, with the premiere of productions at the various levels and at holding of the 29th edition of the International University Theater Show, the MITEU,” they warn.
