The Camino de Santiago added 90,000 pilgrims in León during 2019 | Radio Leon

Around 90,000 pilgrims of 108 nationalities passed through the province of León during the past 2019. They represent a slight decrease compared to 2018 due to the impulse of other roads such as the north or the Portuguese. However, from the Association of Friends of the Way they hope that in 2021, the Xacobeo year, there will be a rebound. They demand a reinforcement in the promotion to compete with other routes that run through other neighboring provinces.

Security and signaling are two of the elements that administrations commit to improve. The subdelegate of the Government has said that the route in the province of León is safe with a low crime rate and of little relevance. The Diputación commits a game in the next budget to improve signaling and connectivity. The president announces that one of his objectives will be to provide wifi to a good part of the Leonese track.

The León City Council, for its part, announces an improvement of the layout in the city, as part of the improvement of the historic center. But they also demand that the Junta lend its shoulder to the rest of the province.
