The world’s largest beauty award for camels is back after a corona break, writes BBC.
The most beautiful camel walks away with almost 600 million kroner in prizes.
Breeders therefore go to great lengths – and farther than far – to make their camels the prettiest possible in the prestigious competition.
Dozens of camels have now been disqualified due to, among other things, Botox use.

Reveals fraudulent methods
It is the Saudi authorities who have revealed cheating in the beauty contest, writes the state news agency Saudi Press Agency according to NTB.
40 camels have been discarded from the competition during the month-long camel festival in Rumah.
It is strictly forbidden to use Botox or other cosmetic procedures to make the camels more attractive to the judges.
Despite this, camels are thrown out of the competition every year due to cheating.

Reveals fraudulent methods
Both height, head shape, body shape and hump position are measured during the competition.
Big heads, full lips and well-groomed, delicate ears are also something the judges consider very positive features.
Using specialized technology, this year the authorities have revealed that several breeders had illegally stretched out the lips and noses of the camels.
They have also used hormones to increase muscle mass, and injected the animals with Botox to make their heads bigger.
– The authorities are concerned with stopping all forms of tampering and deception in an attempt to beautify camels. Those who do this will receive severe penalties, writes Saudi Press Agency.

Will preserve the role of the camel
The camel festival bears the name of the country’s former ruler, King Abdulaziz.
Camel farming is a large industry in the country, which according to NTB has a turnover of many millions of dollars a year.
The camel competition, which also includes races and sales, aims to preserve the camel’s role in the kingdom’s Bedouin tradition.
